Frequently asked questions

How do I log a meal?

Tap the camera button on the home screen, snap a photo of your meal, and Cibario will identify it and estimate calories and macros. You can adjust the portion or pick a different match before saving. If you'd rather search by name or scan a barcode, use the search bar or the barcode icon instead.

Why don't my entries show their food name sometimes?

If you see a log entry without a name, it usually means the food row it pointed to was deleted or the entry was created before a sync completed. Pulling down on the log screen forces a refresh; if entries still look wrong, please email us with the date and we can fix it on our side.

How do I change my photo retention setting?

Open Settings → Photos. You can keep photos for 0, 2, 7, 30, or 90 days. "0 days" means the photo is deleted from our servers as soon as the food is identified — only the resulting log entry stays. The default is 2 days. Older photos are deleted automatically by a daily background job.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings → Account → Delete Account. You'll be asked to confirm with Sign in with Apple. Your account is marked for deletion immediately and fully erased within 30 days (we keep this short grace window so accidental deletions can be reversed if you contact us within the period). When deletion runs, all your photos, log entries, and personal foods are removed, and we revoke Cibario's Sign in with Apple token so it stops appearing in your Apple ID settings.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Open Settings → Export Data. You'll get a JSON file containing every log entry, every food you've created, and your settings. This file is self-contained so you can take it to another app or just keep a personal record.

The app says I'm offline but I have signal.

Cibario checks connectivity by pinging our server every 30 seconds. If you've just unlocked the phone or come back from another app, it can take up to 10 seconds to flip back to online. If it stays stuck offline for more than a minute on a working connection, force-quit and reopen the app. If the problem persists, please email support with your iOS version and roughly when it started.

The food I scanned came up as "Unknown".

Cibario looks up barcodes in two public databases (USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts). If a product is missing from both — common for UK store-brand items — the scan returns "Unknown". You can tap Edit and fill in the macros once; Cibario remembers it for next time.

Does Cibario give medical advice?

No. Cibario is a logging tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or give medical or dietary advice. If you have a medical condition that requires nutritional management, please talk to your GP or a registered dietitian.

What devices does Cibario support?

iPhone running iOS 16 or newer. iPad is not officially supported yet (the app will run but is not optimised). Android is not on the roadmap currently.

Is my data shared with anyone?

No. We don't sell data, we don't run third-party analytics, and we don't ship logs to advertising platforms. Photos you upload are sent to Anthropic's Vision API solely so it can identify the food, then deleted from our servers per your retention setting. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Feature requests

We read everything. Cibario is intentionally small — photo, log, track — but we're always happy to hear what you're missing. Email privacy@cibario.app with "Feature:" in the subject line.

Outages

If Cibario isn't loading at all, our backend may be down for maintenance. We don't run a public status page yet; if you suspect an outage, email support and we'll confirm. The app queues new entries locally and will sync them when service returns, so you can keep logging offline.
